곰브리치 세계사 Book Review 2026/07/03 (PART 2)

The second half of this book was more interesting than I thought it would be. I liked learning about the Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, and the World Wars. At first, I thought there would be too many events to remember. However, the author explained everything in a simple way. That made the book easier and more enjoyable to read.

My favorite part was how the book explained the reasons behind important events. It wasn't just a list of names and dates. I could understand why people made certain choices and what happened because of them. That made history feel more real to me. It was much more interesting than reading a normal textbook.

While reading, I kept thinking about how different life was back then. I felt lucky that I didn't have to live through wars or difficult times like many people did. For example, the industrial revolution. I use technology everyday, and the prospect of going back where technology was scarce is unthinkable. Next, the world wars. The whole globe was in panic, and every country near Germany was frightened. Economies would fail, and global prices would skyrocket and vice versa. The stories also made me realize how much the world has changed and stayed the same for wars. Now, people in wars seek to profit with stocks, and life still moves on as if nothing happens. Only a scarce number of people know what calamity happened in the past day, and many are not affected. At the same time, some problems people had are still around today. That surprised me the most.

I think the author wanted readers to learn from history instead of just memorizing it. After reading this book, I understood why history is important. It helps us see how the past affects our lives today. I also think people can avoid making the same mistakes if they know history well. That message stayed with me after I finished reading. However, there is still chaos everywhere, people dying, mistreated, and living in an unfair world. Hopefully the readers know that while they read.

I really liked the author's writing style because it was easy to follow. Some history books are boring, but this one felt more like someone telling a story. Even the serious parts were not difficult to understand. I never felt lost while reading. That made me want to keep reading instead of stopping.

If I could change one thing, I would add more pictures and maps. I think they would help readers imagine the places and events better. Even without them, I enjoyed the second half of the book a lot. It changed the way I think about history and made me more interested in it. I would recommend this book to other students because it is easy to read and actually fun.
