This book only took me a week to read. And to be honest, it was worth every second,
So Project Hail Mary is like a sci-fi book in space. Kinda similar to movies like the Martian and whatnot.
Now for the book itself, it’s very solid.
What I liked most, was that Grace didn’t leave Rocky to die on his own, and sacrificed himself multiple times to save Rocky. It really showed his strong bond with the alien creature, and how he was really lonely on Earth. Throughout the entire book, he never mentioned his family or friends once. I felt sorry for him.
But I really hated the ending. For some reason, he doesn’t want to see if Earth survived or not, and becomes a science teacher on an alien planet. By the way, the entire planet is pitch black and the inhabitants look like a mutated rock potato combined with a disabled crab. Would you like to live there?
Aside from the part at the end, the book had a different feel and atmosphere from other space sci-fi books and movies. The fact that the book told us from the start that Grace wouldn’t return back alive was shocking. And somehow, Grace didn’t give up and found a way to survive. But seriously, is Earth okay? Like can people live there? I really hated the cliffhanger at the end. Why???
This book still gets a 9/10. If I was the author, I would have had a way for the Eridians and humans to meet together and live together, somehow. That would open up new opportunities for sequels, like arguments and rivalry with the humans and Eridians, and vice versa.
I heard theres also a movie released, can't wait to see it!
