The Chalice of the Gods takes place after the events of The Heroes of Olympus but before The Trials of Apollo. Percy is starting his senior year at Alternative High School, scrambling to catch up on his credits after he went missing for the majority of his junior year (thanks to a certain goddess who shall not be named). But things are never easy for our favorite demigod, and he soon receives the news that in order to apply for college at New Rome University, he must obtain three letters of recommendation from the gods, because Percy has not done enough quests yet. (NOT) The first quest: find and return a sacred chalice to Ganymede, the cupbearer of the gods. (Seems like Olympians have trouble holding onto stuff. cough Like lightning bolts cough
Every page of this was utterly wonderful. Easily one of my most anticipated releases of the year, The Chalice of the Gods reinstated everything I adore about this series. From the first page I was immediately taken back to Percy's recognizable sarcasm and the world of the demigods. I could read a handbook of Terms & Conditions for computer appliances written from the perspective of Percy Jackson and probably adore it just as much as the rest of the books. The son of Poseidon will forever be one of my all-time favorite characters.
