Magnus Chase Book Review 2025/08/30

This book was incredibly enjoyable to read. Most of Rick Riordan’s books are based on heroes that virtually never die, because they are the main character. But this is different. Magnus dies from the beginning, and the story carries out as Magnus as an einherjar.

Most people have the misconception that it is an honor to be resurrected to Valhalla, that it is an incredible feat to put yourself before others, to sincerely react to scenes of crisis. Sure, it would be hard. But then you have to spend the rest of eternity training to fight in Ragnarök, where some gods are destined to die. Like, what’s the point? You get healed everyday just so you die the next day. You’re being fattened up like pigs, ready to serve the All-Father in Ragnarök, just to have his head bitten off later by Fenris Wolf.

So I disliked the part where all the warriors think it's noble and honorable.

But then came the sudden twist that X was Odin, and I immediately enjoyed it once more.

9/10! Very clean, a new perspective on how novels can be written, and overall a great banger.
