The Code Breaker Book Review 2025/03/09 (2nd Edition of Reading Twice)

The Code Breaker is a scientific book explaining everything I wanted to know about DNA and RNA. I especially enjoyed the part when they explained the creation of Covid-19. The rapidly spreading new coronavirus had then been given an official name. SARS-CoV-2. It was similar to the SARS coronavirus that had spread out of China in 2003, infecting more than 8000 people world wide. The disease caused by the new virus was named Covid-19.

This was my favorite part because it was something I experienced. Everyday on the news, there were more or less 10 dead victims of the virus. My friends had the Covid-19 as well, and we had to wear uncomfortable masks everyday. I was beginning to think this was an unknown virus created by aliens, and now I know it’s not an alien abomination.

However, I am still uncertain about how viruses or diseases are created. And also, is it possible to genetically modify the human DNA so that we could be immune to such tragedies?

9/10!

I solved a lot of mysteries reading this, but I feel like it could have elaborated a bit more on a specific part, and could have used more simpler vocabulary when it described the contents in the book. They could have also explained why some things are called CRISPR and SHERLOCK and etc. But overall, a fantastic book.
